In the movie "Places in the Heart" the film closes with Sally Field sharing communion with the man who killed her husband and her dead husband. The movie showed communion wasn't just a one time event, but each time we share the bread and the cup, we share it with all believers living and dead. I used to think it was a neat idea, but nothing more. But last evening, as we shared communion at the 85th anniversary, I really did feel all souls and all saints who make the United Church what it is today surrounding me in the meal. Powerful
